We look for ways to be good neighbors in the communities where we operate. Part of that effort is carefully monitoring our spring sources and providing information about those efforts to constituents. But we also look for ways to support the community. Along with providing job growth and tax revenue, we help fund community education efforts and improvement projects.

    Good Neighbor Policy

    Responsible Spring Water Resource Management

Long-term monitoring is the hallmark of our environmental stewardship program. These studies measure groundwater levels, nearby stream flows, precipitation, and the health of wetlands and aquatic life at our spring sites. Not only is this the right thing to do to manage the sustainable use of the springs, it also protects our investment in the site and in the community.

The work done by our Natural Resource Managers make it possible for Nestlé Waters North America to manage our springs responsibly and support the environment proactively.

    Environmental Excellence

Our commitment to the environment starts at the spring source with water resource practices, which are, in our opinion, unparalleled. Our Natural Resource Managers have a particular passion for the environment. They are the guardians of our springs, from spring site selection to the long-term monitoring of aquifers and their surrounding environment. The investment in science and oversight made by Nestlé Waters North America supports keeping our springs sustainable.

Environmental excellence doesn’t stop there. Those employees working in our plants operate under the Nestlé Environmental Management System. This system emphasizes continuous improvement and monitoring of environmental performance. We also do our part in ways that include recycling materials, lightweighting our packaging, and building “green design” bottling facilities.

    Open Communication

At Nestlé Waters North America, we encourage our neighbors to learn about who we are and what we do. We try to be a positive, responsible, and caring part of the community.

We keep the lines of communication open in the community in many ways, from public forums to newsletters, local websites, advertising, and hosting community days.

    Community Giving

Being a good neighbor comes in various forms and goodwill giving is one way we do that. We work with local communities where we live and work to determine their specific needs. Between 2008 and 2010, we gave over $12 million in product and financed donations. We’ve provided emergency equipment and bottled water for community events.

    Emergency Relief

In times of emergency, we’re doing our part – providing helping hands and bottled water – when a community’s water supply is interrupted. We’re proud of the times we’ve been able to offer disaster relief and replenish the spirits of our neighbors in need.

    Water Education

Water education is another form of our community involvement. Nestlé Waters North America takes a leadership role in teaching today’s students – from elementary school to doctoral candidates – to appreciate and conserve water.

    Exemplary Employment Practices

Our employees are talented, action-oriented individuals who share our will-do attitude, our commitment to community, and respect for each other and the environment. They have a passion for providing naturally good products and exceptionally good service.

These qualities are grounded in a desire to do things a better way. Likewise, our aspirations and beliefs provide a touchstone for continuous improvement and affirmation of our culture. Training and professional development courses help us reach our full potential.

Employment at Nestlé Waters North America may be one of the most valuable – and satisfying – assets our facilities bring to a community.

    Traffic Mitigation

Like most companies that produce goods, our products are carried by truck from our bottling facilities to the marketplace.

We work with local planning officials to conform to traffic ordinances that apply to the area and the operation, and where possible and appropriate, take steps to improve the potential impacts. For example, in Michigan, we built our factory as close to an interstate as possible. We make appropriate road modifications, such as turning lanes for our factories in Northern Florida and Maine.

    Sustainable Land Use

We are entrusted with more than 14,000 acres surrounding our spring water properties that are maintained as open land.

Because the spring sites we select are often in quiet, undeveloped settings, our spring facilities often serve to preserve large tracts of land in its natural state. There are many examples of how we provide for healthy, open space – from a conservation easement in Pennsylvania, to sponsoring a nature preserve at our spring source in Florida, to restoring natural forest communities in Maine.

    Water Resource Relations

Our environmental stewardship is not limited to our spring sources. Our practices are designed to respect the health and diversity of the surrounding environment. Our exploration of new spring sites includes site-specific testing and ongoing monitoring to measure our operations regularly.
